How to take care of your Berninox

As an everyday item, the toothbrush does not always receive the care it deserves. Yet, to ensure good oral hygiene, it is important to properly maintain your toothbrush, particularly to prevent the growth and spread of bacteria. The Berninox toothbrush offers many advantages in terms of cleaning and sterilisation compared to a toothbrush made of conventional plastic. In this article, we present simple steps to follow daily and at regular intervals.

And an eco-friendly bonus: taking care of your Berninox is not only beneficial for a healthy mouth and a bright smile, it is also an environmentally friendly choice that contributes to the longevity of your toothbrush.

Daily routine

After each use, it is important to thoroughly rinse the brush head under warm water to remove any toothpaste and food debris that may have accumulated. You can rub the bristles with your finger to help the process. Then, shake or tap the brush against the palm of your hand to remove excess water.

Drying and storing

Drying and storing your toothbrush are steps that shouldn’t be overlooked, as water and humidity are environments where bacteria thrive. We recommend letting your Berninox air-dry in an upright position, ensuring it doesn’t touch any other toothbrush heads (to avoid cross-contamination).

When traveling, try not to place your toothbrush immediately into a case ; let it dry a little first.

Finally, where you place your toothbrush should be carefully considered. When flushing the toilet, droplets can be projected onto your toothbrush. To avoid this, we recommend closing the toilet lid before flushing and placing your toothbrush as far away as possible.

Regular maintenance

We recommend separating the head from the handle to clean the inside of the attachment under warm water once a week. This helps prevent toothpaste residue buildup in that area. This step can also be done daily or after each use if desired.

For a deeper clean, your Berninox toothbrush is also sterilizable. This helps eliminate bacteria and viruses that may be present on your toothbrush.

To do this, start by separating the head from the handle, then immerse them in a bath of boiling water with one tablespoon of white vinegar for 10 minutes. This method helps dissolve residue and limescale while thoroughly disinfecting the toothbrush, without damaging the materials. Unlike most standard toothbrushes, the plastic we use is heat-resistant. Your Berninox will come out looking brand new !

We recommend carrying out this full sterilisation at least once a month, as well as after a cold or traveling.

The brush head and handle of your Berninox toothbrush are also dishwasher safe.

When and how should you change the head of your Berninox ?

Generally, it is recommended to replace your toothbrush approximately every 3 months, but the most important factor is the condition of the bristles. As soon as they start to bend, it is time to change your Berninox head, as they are no longer effective for proper teeth cleaning.

The head of your Berninox is deliberately fitted tightly to prevent it from coming loose whilst brushing. An incorrect grip when trying to remove the head can make the process difficult or even impossible. Follow these tips to make sure changing the head doesn’t become a headache :

To remove the head, grip it firmly with your whole hand, as shown in the video below, and make sure to pull hard and, above all, straight ; there is no need to twist or pull at an angle.

  • Avoid pulling at an angle

Repair

It may happen that the prongs of your Berninox handle bend, particularly during head replacement if an incorrect method is used.

In this case, simply tap the prongs firmly – without the head attached – against a wooden board or a cutting board to straighten them out. We recommend tapping three times, then testing the head’s fit – it should “click” into place and sit firmly in the attachement.

Repeat if necessary.
