World Oceans Day: a moment to reflect
June 8 marks World Oceans Day, organised by the United Nations. This date reminds us of the essential role the ocean plays in maintaining the balance of our planet: it produces nearly 50% of the oxygen we breathe and is home to a biodiversity that is both rich and fragile.
At Berninox, this day is an opportunity to take a step back and reflect on our commitments, the choices we have already made, and those we can still improve. When it comes to sustainability, perfection is difficult to achieve. We are not perfect, but we move forward one step at a time, doing what we can, with sincerity, while keeping in mind that every drop counts.
For our toothbrush heads, we use a recycled material made from plastic bottles collected near oceans, in collaboration with the Swiss company Tide Ocean Material. This choice allows us to support a value chain that gives existing materials a second life while helping to reduce plastic pollution in natural environments. Learn more.
We are also aware that ocean pollution does not begin only at the seaside. Waste left in nature, on a street, near a river or stream can eventually be carried into waterways and ultimately reach the ocean. This is also why we take part in Clean-Up Day, to take concrete action against littering in our local area. Learn more.
These actions remain modest in view of the environmental challenges we face. Nevertheless, they are part of a practical approach guided by three simple principles: reduce, reuse, recycle.
In our view, what matters is not finding the perfect solution, but continuing to move forward and improve what can be improved. World Oceans Day serves as a useful reminder that protecting our oceans also starts with simple, local and practical actions.
